Arepa de choclo & hot chocolate

I know I wrote about arepas before but this time I want to talk about another type of arepa called the arepa de choclo (sweet corn arepa). As the name implies, it is sweeter than regular arepas but it is also not as dry as the usual fare. If you get one while in Colombia, don’t forget the piece of mozzarella cheese in the middle and make sure the arepa de choclo gets warmed up before you try it. The mixture of sweet corn with mozzarella really makes this kind of arepa stand out from the crowd and if you are like me, you’ll find yourself a nearby arepera (female arepa maker) in Colombia that sells them daily.

Here’s the recipe. For the trifecta, it’s suggested that one accompany their arepa de choclo with a nice cup of hot chocolate.
